i think that everyone should get tested for AIDS every year. i say this because men and women both can be scandilous and they cheat and always say "what they dont know wont hurt them" and in the end they end up with a disease and i think that if you have the disease that you should be with other people that have the disease and dont infect and innocent person

This post hits very close to home for me. In Africa, the gap between the earning power of men and women is very wide. Many women work in the informal sector, petty trading being very popular. (It is very difficult for a woman, especially when she has children, to leave her husband for an offence as 'minor' as infidelity. Her friends and relatives would laugh themselves to death!) Many women suffer all sorts of abuse both physical and mental abuse but will endure for the sake of the children. Social security doesn't exist here. If they left, they would have to depend on the generousity of friends and family, many of who are trying to survive and take care of their own families.
This is quite apart from the social stigma associated with seperation/divorce here.
There's no quick and easy solution. Education and enlightenment (of men and women) are key to improving the situation. As you pointed out, unfortunately, that will take time which is a scarce commodity right now.
