Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like the teachers were teaching the way they are because they are choosing to.

I really don't think I could be a teacher myself - it would drive me crazy to feel so controlled with guidelines like that.

Hi Trisha!
Please don't blame everything on the teachers. The teachers are just doing their job. If it weren't for the No Child Left Behind Act mandating that all students will be proficient by 2014, teachers would be able to incorporate more critical thinking activities into their curriculum. The state gives the teachers strick guidelines that they must follow, and if they don't follow those guidelines, and if their students don't pass the test, their job is in jeopardy. Believe me, the teachers would much rather be teaching something other than the state standards.

Hi Trisha, i got information by email today that you added me as a friend, thanks, so i thought i would just come along and take a look here.

The phenomenon you talk about in this post, that teachers only seem concerned with children passing tests seems to a universal malaise of the educational system, it certainly is here in India!
