Here are some of my favorite blog posts for the week:
Vanessa at feministing wrote about a New York Times article “in which the author makes a plea for the survival of dresses, not for the comfort or convenience for women, but for all leering men’s sakes“! That’s just so horrible! I can’t believe they actually let something like that be printed.
Donna Crane at Blog for Choice blogged about the “Abstinence-Only” Hearing: Greatest Hits. Scary stuff.
Cynthia wrote a post titled:
TotD: How Science Will Change the 21st Century. I love this stuff and need to read one of Michio Kaku books some day. From the post: “We sometimes forget that, for most of human existence, our lives were short, miserable, and brutish. Sadly, for most of human history, we repeated the same wretched cycle: as soon as we reached puberty, we were expected to toil or hunt with our elders, find a mate and produce children. We would then have a large number of them, with most of them dying at childbirth.”
Gloria at Cancer Commentary wrote about the news story: Lip Balms, Glosses And Skin Cancer. Luckily, I don’t use anything like that and my chapstick is SPF 15 - but I think they make stronger than that now.

Important news story - most have probably heard it by now though: On Increasing Rates of Diabetes in Pregnancy.
Life span, class, gender and race in America. “There is also the fact that there are higher incidences of unhealthy behaviors in lower-income populations, such as smoking, alcohol abuse and poor management of chronic disease.” We need to make sure everyone is getting a good education - especially about health issues.
Senator McCain: Older Than Coke in a Can: I don’t like McCain and I’m not about to vote for him, but it really bothers me that people keep making his age an issue. Its nothing but ageism and its just wrong. Why is not politically correct to make an issue of a woman or black person running but if the person is old - make all the jokes you want its ok? I’m not that old yet but I can already feel like I’m treated differently in some situations. I’m really hoping the baby boomers will fight this kind of stuff and change the perception of being old.
Medicare Generational Split? : Apparently some young people don’t want to pay for Medicare for older Americans. Don’t people have parents or grandparents who they can see really need it? People are already paying around $100 a month for Medicare and that doesn’t cover prescriptions and other expenses. Only people who are still working can be expected to make up the difference.
