I understand what you mean. My first child (daughter) was born in 1972 and we didn't watch TV much at all (we read through the House on the Prairie books and other things). I never really thought at all about someone kidnapping her. My son was born in 1988 and by then it was talked about alot and I didn't feel comfortable for him to be out by himself playing until he was alot older. And I'm not really a worrier, it was just consciously there in the forefront because it was talked about alot by then. So I'm glad to hear that it really wasn't as bad as they said.
