Well it can be communicated exactly as you just did - through the medical blogosphere.

As an ER nurse, this would never occur to me in my practice and yet in the last "Change of Shift: A Nursing Blog Carnival" we started out with a beautiful piece about the stages of illness/of life, really.

Doctors, and nurses, need to realize the importance of anything that affects their patients and families.

I'm not sure if patients feel well enough in the hospital to be able to express their feelings via art or music at that time, but if writing about an issue can help a person deal with it, why not painting, sculpture, music, sketching?

I think the nursing profession may understand it more than the medical profession - and that is not showing any disrespect for my physician colleagues. It's just that nurses tend to be with the patients more and see them in a more "wholistic" sense.
